Over 200 Christians with a passion for mission attended GOfest 2017 hosted this year by Moorlands Bible College in Dorset. GOfest is an annual event organised on a regional basis by Global Connections and its mission organisation partners. Working closely with local churches this dynamic, mission-focused event aims to celebrate what God is doing across the world, and to inspire greater involvement in mission locally and globally.
Church representatives, mission partners and college students mingled together throughout the day at worship sessions, topical seminars and during coffee breaks, and also met exhibitors, including Melanie Griffiths, Supporter Relations & Funding Development Officer with Transform Europe Now.
The event offered TEN a fresh opportunity to meet with local supporter churches and to promote a range of exciting opportunities in the mission field of Europe. There were several enquiries about the work of TEN and interest in short-term mission opportunities. A further benefit of the day was TEN’s connections with Bible colleges, increasing the scope for influence to student bodies about mission in Europe.
One of the talks in the ‘GOconnect’ seminar series highlighted the significant growth in faith across Eastern Europe over the last 20 – 30 years. Conversely, it was reported that during the same period Western Europe has been much harder to reach with the Gospel. However, it was encouraging to hear of an increased openness in Germany and France, attributed in part to the recent migration of believers into these host nations.
GOfest 2017 proved to be an effective way of encouraging openness to mission amongst local churches and for individuals to discover the opportunities to serve God through mission.
