The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10
“At the end of last month, we learned that the district of Kadikoy would allow us to hold our church’s Christmas celebration in an old Catholic Church building that they had recently restored and are now using as a cultural center. This was a great opportunity for our church as many people are much more comfortable coming to a cultural center than a church. We advertised the event by sending out personal invitations by post, by emailing hundreds of people, by handing out brochures, by putting up signs and by inviting friends. As the local government had approved the event, we were completely free to publicize it in any way we wanted. And we were very thankful when about 70 to 80 people came to our Christmas Eve celebration, 25 to 30 of whom were first time guests to any type of church event. We celebrated by singing lots of Christmas hymns (including a couple of recently written Turkish ones), by presenting the Christmas story through a play (the kids did that very well), by a clear Christmas message that focused on why Jesus came, and, of course, by drinking tea and chatting together afterward. It was a peaceful, celebrative evening of worship, and we had a chance to share it with more first-time guests than we have ever had at any previous church event. Please pray with us that the truth of the Christmas story might become clear to some who visited and that we may have the joy of seeing people understand why Christ the Savior came to this world.”
- Praise God for the rare opportunity to openly share testimony and evangelise about the meaning of Christmas.
- Praise God for the new visitors. Continue to pray for them that they may have taken home more from the service than just a good feeling.
- Pray for Turkey in 2015. Turkey is still very enclosed to the gospel. May Christian workers may headway this year, especially Metin and the influence he has.
