Our new communications officer Peter Wooding will be running the London Marathon on April 24 2016, to raise funds for anti-trafficking projects supported by TEN.
For the past 20 years Peter has been a keen distance charity runner and this will be his 19th marathon. He has been training hard for this year and explains that his key motivation is knowing the funds raised will go to supporting TEN’s vital work to tackle human trafficking:
“Training for a full marathon is always a major challenge, especially during the cold winter months. But what helps is knowing every pound we raise will make a huge difference to some of the most vulnerable women and children who are trafficked throughout Europe every day.”
Peter was able to witness first-hand one of our anti-trafficking projects last November when he travelled to Athens and spent some time visiting our partner Viorica who’s part of an amazing ministry to vulnerable women in the red light district. This project is seeing the lives of many of these women turned around and completely transformed.
“It was a privilege and a real inspiration to see that despite facing daily dangers, this project is providing Christ’s compassion to these women who have suffered extreme abuse.”
This ministry also runs a drop-in centre during the week for these vulnerable women offering conversation, counselling and prayer.
Peter concluded: “Despite seeing the hopelessness on the streets of Athens it was so inspiring to hear Viorica share so many stories of women who have found a better life free from trafficking thanks to her ministry.”
Please sponsor Peter today so we can continue to support projects like these that are making a real difference in tackling the serious issue of human trafficking across Europe:
